"Trust the Power Within" Writing Reflection #Trustyourpower

As many may know we work in a school that is privileged to have a DHH (Deaf and Hard of Hearing) Program. This program is filled with amazing students and inspiring educators. One of the teachers, Megan Robertson, sent everyone this POWERFUL commercial:
I received the email during my morning prep time and had writing scheduled for after lunch. I decided the message in this video was too meaningful to wait. I decided to throw in an impromptu reflection writing assignment. I had the student get their "I Wonder" writing notebooks as they entered the room.
My student's "I Wonder" Notebook

We watched the video a couple times before discussing the inspiring message. Yes this is an ad by Duracell, but message has nothing to do with a battery. It sends a bold message to the viewer at the end, "Trust the Power Within."
I had my student write about how this commercial. I posed a 3 questions to get them thinking:
  1. How does this commercial make you feel?
  2. Why am I showing this ad to you?
  3. What is the important message?
The responses came back saying,
  • "Never giving up"
  • "Keep trying, even when you fail."
  • "Work hard."
  • "Don't listen when others say you can't."
I believe the message, "Trust the Power Within" is something every student should hear! "Weather you think you can, or think you can't, you're right."
Help students everywhere understand the power of believing they can do anything they set their mind to.

Please use the #Trustyourpower when sharing this post to let others believe they can.
