DAQRI's Enchantium Released!!

Enchantium is a new dimension of play from DAQRI. It features the fun Fisticuffs game and the ability to create music like never before with Musical Strings!

Zientia is out to change the way we learn using interactive augmented reality applications. I have had the pleasure of beta testing their apps and recently got to speak with a couple of their representatives.
It was three young entrepreneurs that decided that in the future they would try using augmented reality to change education, because it has multiple benefits for both students and teachers. Augmented reality improves spatial perception, makes learning more interactive, engaging, personalized. Students can make exercises and they can be automatically corrected. It allows teachers to explain abstract concepts much easier.
Zientia has 3 exciting educational augmented reality applications coming out very soon!

Chemistry 101 comes with various modes that allow you to pull elements right from the periodic table and interact with them. It also comes with engaging exercises to study and assess learning.

You can download the augmented reality trigger cards here.

Thanks to augmented reality Geometry 101 will let you can examine, from different points of view, various features of these geometric structures.

Aurasma for homework mini-lessons

Aurasma is the most powerful tool I have ever came across in education! I truly believe Aurasma and augmented reality is going to change education. I use Aurasma to place mini-lesson "auras" over my students homework assignments. This gives them quick tips and reminders for students who need a
litter extra help on the assignment. Check out the sample video below!

AR Flashcards

We have recently discovered the great AR Flashcards application! This app uses augmented reality to engage the students in learning their letters. Highly recommended for early childhood educators and parents! AR Flashcards are a new way to interact and make Flashcards more entertaining for toddlers and preschoolers. With AR Flashcards, learning is fun! When you point your device at the printed flashcard a beautifully rendered 3D animal will pop up on the screen. Tap the animal to hear the letter and animal name.

Features:
- 26 beautifully rendered Animals to help your toddler or preschooler learn the alphabet!
- 6 beautifully rendered Dinosaurs!
- Tap on each Animal to hear the Letter and name of the Animal!
- Tap the screenshot button to save your pics of the beautiful AR animals!
- Double tap the screen to bring up the focus button so that you can adjust your device's camera to better bring up the animals.
- You can print out the flashcards or if you own two iOS devices you can access the flashcards from within the app in a beautiful swipeable gallery!
*Note* You must visit http://www.arflashcards.com/ to download and print the free Flashcard Markers necessary to make this app work. Make sure to print the flashcards in color as they will not work in black and white. This app will only work on devices with a camera.

Aurasma for visible thinking routines!

Today was our visible thinking exhibition and Brad created auras for this step inside routine. The student in the past would "step inside" the characters shoes and write a short paper from the characters point of view. This year Brad had his students complete the writing assignment but also "step inside" the characters world and do a short video presentation from the characters point of view. Brad used Aurasma and created "auras" with the video being the "overlay" and the students writing sample be the "trigger image." The parents were blown away!!

What is Augmented Reality?

Augmented reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented) by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality. By contrast, virtual reality replaces the real world with a simulated one. Augmentation is conventionally in real-time and in semantic context with environmental elements, such as sports scores on TV during a match. With the help of advanced AR technology (e.g. adding computer vision and object recognition) the information about the surrounding real world of the user becomes interactive and digitally manipulable. Artificial information about the environment and its objects can be overlaid on the real world

Aurasma has changed the way I teach!

I first learned about Aurasma a few weeks ago while attending the 2013 MACUL Conference in Detroit, Michigan. It was shown in a couple different sessions but not much information was given on it. I was very interested in it and started to do some research. This app, along with their online studio, has allowed me to create multiple "auras" for my classroom, school, and district. I highly recommend Aurasma as a game changing app!
Check out www.aurasma.com and download the Aurasma app for iPhones and Android.

  2. Hey guys! I'm a researcher from the University of South Florida and I just wanted to say the work you're doing with education and AR is phenomenal. Also a cool tidbit: we're among a very, very small minority of educational Aurasma users!

Recently I became a Google #GlassExplorer and I wanted to extend an invitation to you all--if you're interested--to collaborate on using Google Glass in the Class (#GlassClass).

  3. Hey Joe,

Thanks for the compliment! Yes, we are a small group of early adopters, but we are out to change that by talking to as many people as we can & showing the true power of AR in Education!

Congrats on the Glass! That's awesome. Yes, we would love to do some collaboration with you using Glass. Hit me up on twitter @techbradwaid or email me at techbradwaid@gmail.com.

Looking forward to it! Love to hear about what you're doing down there in Florida.

    Thanks Joe,

    Brad

  5. My daughter used ColAR yesterday while babysitting a 6 and 11 year old. They loved it - not much educational value yet, but sure did make her the "cool" babysitter on the block! :-)

  8. Hey guys! I stumbled across your blog tonight, and love that you guys have been doing stuff with Aurasma. I too found out about it a little over a year ago and have been trying to harness the power of it in education as well. I am lucky enough to be able to present about AR and Aurasma at the FETC 2014 Conference in Orlando in January. If you happen to come up with any awesome ideas, I would love to share it in my presentation and talk you guys up! Here are a few blog posts that I have written over the past year in my learning adventures: http://blogs.henrico.k12.va.us/trhart/?cat=87 One of the posts has the presentation that I will be using about AR and Aurasma.

  9. Thanks for sharing your AR ideas. I liked your creative writing piece tied to the COLAR app. I went and downloaded the app- maybe the price is different now than it was for you but it is 2,99 for each set of 6 coloring pages and can't mix and match. Also, question, if I were to hang the coloring pieces with the creative writing on a display for anyone outside the classroom, they would have to download app and get the paid version to be able to interact with the coloring page - correct?? Could you in reality set up a trigger image with Aurasma? My guess is you wouldn't get the same 3D pop-up??

  10. Are you guys familiar with AR Alphabet flashcard by WindWalk Studio or their AR Handwriting App? I'm trying to find where to print/purchase their product to scan to AR and I'm having no luck.

BTW...Saw you at FITC this year and totally changed my teaching. Love AR! Thanks.
